A Jewish and American professor and literary author named Elie Wiesel once said, “In Concentration camps, we discovered this whole universe where everyone had his place. The killer came to kill and the victims came to die.” This quote shows how powerful the Holocaust was.One of the main Concentration Camps is Auschwitz, a camp in which two-four million people were estimated to lose their lives there during that time. The majority of the people were killed in gas chambers, but others died from starvation, forced labor, diseases, shooting squads, and medical experiments. Most victims were Jews because Hitler, the main cause and creator of the Holocaust, had a Jew doctor trying to save his mother before death in a hospital has passed an the Jew could do nothing to save her Hitler started thinking that it was all the Jews fault and begun to have a hate towards them. Another concentration camp was in Belzec, this camp killed around 600,000 people which is way less than a 3rd of the killing in Auschwitz. The term Concentration camp refers to a camp which people are detained or confined, usually under harsh conditions.
“In Concentration camps, we discovered this whole universe where everyone had his place. The killer came to kill and the victims came to die.” This quote shows how powerful the Holocaust was. In this writing you will learn about transportation to get to the concentration camps, daily life in the camps, and different camps that were most recognized. The Holocaust was a time in history when certain people with a different background or religion were killed for a hate towards them. Therefore, imprisoned innocent people that had no more hope, happiness, or love, that were going to die, were part of Hitler’s inhumane camps. On the Jews voyage to the camps they had no clue what or where they were. As soon as the prisoners walked into a camp such as Auschwitz they saw was the words, “Arbeit Macht Frei” which means the work will give you freedom. These words were used to promote false hope that prisoners will believe that one day they might be free. As the prisoners walked into the gates they would be separated from all family members, friends, and grandparents. They were put into men and women group and age groups, the old would die and the young would work for the German officers. People had no idea that it would the last and final time the will be together. A strong sent of charred human flesh and human hair was smelt throughout the living quarters of the camps. People were scared, hopeless and very thirsty. No running water was located anywhere, no sanitary equipment and caused a rapid viral spread of disease causing people to die quicker. Nobody could escape or at least attempt to, the camp was surrounded by double barbed wire electric fences. Nine watchtowers would watch over the perimeter looking for escapers. During the harsh weather such as rain, snow, fast winds or anything the prisoners would stand outside in their clothing that had been given to them by the soldiers under Hitlers command, they would wait till there name or number that was branded/burned onto their skin getting a role call seeing who was left and living. After six to eight hours of labor prisoners would eat food. They were given one to two meals a day or nothing at all for a week. Their food consisted of 10 ounces of bread, a small moldy piece of salami, and tasteless coffee with no sugar. Also, soup made up of dirty, muddy water from rain in a pond, with carrots, and rutabagas, which is a turnip, and the last thing is a worm that would serve are there protein. Jews were treated very differently from normal people. There transportation to the camps was like stuffing 50 grown cows in a dog cage. False security told them that they were going to work in camps. They used box cars and stuffed up to 120 people in with barely any room to breathe. Transportation would take up to 4-10 days without any water or food. People would get very ill and throw up on each other because of the lack of air and room. One of the longest transports lasted up to 18 days and was to a Greek island called Corfu. When the doors were opened everyone in the box car had already died. |
This is a picture of an entrance to one of the Concentration Camps. There are tracks to get into them by the box cars where they stuff hundreds of people to get in. They had no way of getting food or water for days then right when they get to the camp they still had no food or water if they were lucky they would get at least some little water.
Here is a Jewish person getting there photo taken to put up on a wall to show that he once was living and was in the camp for Hitler to see that they will be gone and dead.
This is a picture of a women's arm that has been branded on to show her/his number the Soldiers have called out for roll call to see who is dead or alive, they wouldn't use names just the numbers on the people.
This is what Jews and undesirables looked like when they were starved and left alone and hopeless they are skinny and near death.
